Manerba del Garda
|
Manerba del Garda lies near the charming Parco della Rocca di Manerba; the town is divided in six hamlets: Solarolo, Montinelle, Balbiana, Pieve, Crociale and Gardoncino and it is one of the preferred destinations during the summer, thanks also to the presence of the famous Island of S.Biagio, also known as Isola dei Conigli (Island of the Rabbits).
The history of Manerba, during the Middle Ages, is linked to the Rocca (defensive stronghold). The Rocca di Manerba left its military function with the passage of the territory to the Srenissima, the Venetian Republic, in XV century. Such dominion lasted uninterruptedly until the 1796. Manerba del Garda was annexed to the Austro-hungarian empire and the definitive liberation was conquered on the battlefields of S. Martino and Solferino.
Rocca natural park
The Archaeological Natural Park of the Rocca-Sasso has an area of approximately 900.000 mq. that include the area of the Rocca and the coastal belt between the localities of Dusano and Pisenze. The valorization of the zone, thanks to archaeological surveyings and the restoration of the medieval structures of the Rocca, has allowed the creation of a tourist tour of high archaeological interest.
From the area of the castle it is possible to observe the lake and all the surrounding territory, most of which is a naturalistic park.
